Artistic Herbariums

For botanists, the pressing and preservation of plants has served—and continues to serve—primarily as a means of scientific study. Beyond their scientific purpose, however, herbaria soon attracted the interest of philosophers and artists, becoming objects of aesthetic appreciation. Moreover, herbaria teach us about the transience and resilience of life. They remind us of our own fragility—a fragility that nonetheless stubbornly endures, leaving behind a small yet valuable trace. Capturing and preserving a fleeting moment is the role of the artistic herbarium; in doing so, it teaches us about the significance of transience, as well as the eternal cycle of change that proudly triumphs over the insignificance of the human species.

To ensure their longevity, it is essential to protect them from direct sunlight (UV rays), excessive humidity, and extreme temperatures. Since this is a natural process, it should be noted that gradual color fading is inevitable; however, proper care can slow down this process. The composition and texture remain intact over time, giving the herbarium its unique value.  

Creating a herbarium takes three to four weeks.
